Statement of Faith

My parents were committed Protestant Christians, and I "grew up" in the Reformed Church and Presbyterian tradition.  At the age of 8, at the suggestion of my Sunday School teacher, I prayed the simple song "Into My Heart (Come into my heart, Lord Jesus)."  I immediately felt so thoroughly accepted, loved, and forgiven that never since then have I doubted God’s existence and love for me.

For several years I edited children’s curriculum materials for the United Methodist Church, and after that I belonged to a Methodist congregation because I found much to admire in that tradition.  But I finally became disillusioned because of the denomination’s restrictive policy regarding gays and lesbians in the church.  (I have more to say about that in my book, Christian AND Lesbian: A Life in Progress, available for $14.99 from Eunice Fisher, P.O. Box 1559, St. Petersburg, FL 33731-1559.)

I now belong to a small (and growing!) congregation which accepts ALL people, and puts the love and work of Christ before any other consideration.  (See www.christcornerstone.com if you want more information about it.)

I've found God to be faithful.  Even when things seem to go "wrong" in my life, either from causes outside myself or from weaknesses within, I put my trust in God, and find the resources I need.  I've come to realize that God's plan is more complex than we can imagine, and I believe that love is the force that drives and supports all of life.  May you too know the power and grace that comes with relationship to God, however your belief system defines the Divine.
